In an immaculate Odessa warehouse, you'll
find over 50 different totally natural, very satisfying health foods -
imported from Germany and waiting to be shipped to retailers and
distributors in all parts of country.
"I don't know how many people in Florida
are even familiar with muesli," says Valerie Reed (who uses the title
"Keeper of the World's best Muesli"), "but I do know that once someone tries
any of our varieties, a lifelong customer is born."
Mueslis are Seitenbacher's flagship products and its calling
card to new markets. The company, located near Heidelberg, has been selling
through distributors and directly to some large chains in the US for years,
but in 2005, it look the next step, opening the distribution center in
Florida.
"In Germany, there is a large demand for totally natural and
organic foods in all grocery stores, not just in health food stored," says
company founder Willi Pfannenschwarz. "I believe that the American market is
moving more and more to natural foods which do not introduce foreign

grain. That is what everyone would want - mentally. But such foods are not
always appealing. We have worked for years to be sure our products are
extremely flavorful, with hearty, satisfying textures. Our mueslis are
delicious by any standards. If they were not, we wouldn't even be here."
So how did Seitenbacher make its "health food" even better
tasting than most mainstream food? By filling the recipes with what we
usually find only in small amounts and thing of as "treats." For instance,
in Berries and Almonds Muesli, only two ingredients are grain. The others
are raisins, sliced almonds, sunflower kernels, dried raspberries and dried
apples (in that order).
Although most varieties are simpler, Muesli for Active
People has 18 ingredients - 8 fruits, 4 grains, 4 nuts, soy kernels and
